I have been attending post card writing parties, but it just didn’t seem like I was doing enough, given the high stakes of this election. So I asked myself, when all is said and done and we know who our next president is going to be, will I be able to look at myself in the mirror and feel comfortable with what I see? My answer? “No!” So I decided I’d go to my home state of Pennsylvania and encourage people to vote Democratic. The Sunrise Movement https://www.sunrisemovement.org/ (my favorite organization) is working in tandem with Seed the Vote https://seedthevote.org/ and I will be partnering up with them and their volunteers. I will also be staying at an AirBnB in Drexel Hill, just a few miles from where I grew up, in Oakmont. It’s been a VERY long time since I’ve been back, and I look forward to saying hello … and then good bye. California has unquestionably captured my heart!
About a month ago I drove to Nevada City and went looking for a pine cone to give to Kamala Harris. I want to remind her of the giant trees in California, and how important they are in their role of protecting the earth from Climate Change. I found about a dozen fairly good looking pine cones in a local state park, but only one of them let me know SHE wanted to be the chosen one … and yes, these pine cones are feminine. There are male pine cones, but they are much smaller. What a perfect, and symbolic, gift! So I took this lovely pine cone home, had her encased in plexiglass, and then attached this case to a pack frame so I can carry her around on my back. Hopefully she’ll eventually be given an honored place in the White House.
I am also taking this journey to bring attention to the Sugar Pine Foundation: https://sugarpinefoundation.org/, a truly wonderful organization dedicated to the return of the sugar pine tree.
Please do what you can to help elect Kamala and Tim!
Thanks,
❤️ Jes
