Dear Friends,
OK, I admit it … I’m a dreamer. Some dreams have come true, while others are still out there waiting to be realized. One of my biggest dreams that came true was The Blue Heron Inn.
After two years of managing the Village Inn, a charming restaurant in Monte Rio, my wife, and now good friend, Gaia, and I set out to find a third partner and a place of our own. We found both: Anna (an AMAZING partner) and a small bar called the Mayor’s Inn in Duncans Mills.
We wanted to transform this old country bar into a vegetarian restaurant with a seating capacity for over 100, but everyone warned us we didn’t have enough money. So, we got creative. We printed our own currency, “In Food We Trust,” and offered this to friends who were working as electricians, plumbers, and carpenters. They stopped by in between their paying jobs and helped whenever they could … with the understanding that once the restaurant was up and running, they could trade in these “Blue Bills” for meals … and LOTS of gratitude from the host (me). This spirit of trust and community—our own version of a “barn raising”— brought the Blue Heron Inn to life.
Why am I sharing this story with you now? Because I have another dream—and I’d love for you to be a part of it … an 8-person Pod! The eight of us will be creating something truly unique and special together … a Pine Cone Home! … and we’ll be bringing this HUGE pine cone mobile home to high schools to raise awareness about Climate Change.
Also, I’m hoping we’ll be featured on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert … in a weekly 10-minute series, where we’ll be showcasing interviews with Climate Change celebrities and student activists, and bringing attention to this vital issue in a fun and engaging way.
